Spark ignition in Jungholz

In the Tannheimer Tal holiday region, spring begins on February 25 2023, always one Sunday after Ash Wednesday. Then, in Jungholz, the spark witch, the life-size embodiment of the cold season, is symbolically burnt.  This is one of many traditions that are still lived in the Tyrolean high valley. From 8 p.m. everyone who yearns for the warm season meets at the Jungholz fire station. With Funkenküchle, a sweet lard pastry and the last mulled wine of winter for the time being, locals and guests get in the mood for spring before the huge fire.
