Spark ignition in Jungholz
Spark ignition (Funkenfeuer) in Jungholz
In the Tannheimer Tal holiday region, spring begins on 29 February 2020, always one Sunday after Ash Wednesday. Then, in Jungholz, the spark witch, the life-size embodiment of the cold season, is symbolically burnt. This is one of many traditions that are still lived in the Tyrolean high valley. From 8 p.m. everyone who yearns for the warm season meets at the Jungholz fire station. With Funkenküchle, a sweet lard pastry and the last mulled wine of winter for the time being, locals and guests get in the mood for spring before the huge fire.
