For demanding bikers there are 15 bike routes with a total of 150 kilometers, officially approved and uniformly signed by the State of Tyrol. In addition, the Tannheimer Tal is the starting point for the newly designed "Bike Trail Tirol." The large circuit with over 800 kilometers and the many connecting stages with a further 500 kilometers are designed so that bikers can assemble their personal route themselves.
Bike paths away from the roads
You can explore the surroundings on the "Tannheimer Tal bike trail," which passes the most beautiful corners of the Tyrolean high valley over 40 kilometers. The bike trails are off the main road and uniformly signed. Via Schattwald towards Rehbach you reach Ober- and Unterjoch in the Allgäu - pause a moment at the moor pond "Floschen." Or cycle through Tannheim and Grän further on the new promenade at the Haldensee to Nesselwängle. A detour to the nature reserve Vilsalpsee will surely please you.
The Tannheimer Tal bike & mountain bike map
The bike & mountain bike map Tannheimer Tal shows 15 routes, color-coded and numbered. The route descriptions, elevation profiles, length, and difficulty levels of each route can be found on the reverse side. All routes are combinable and well signposted. Additionally, MTB tours from neighboring regions are also shown. The blue marked routes are for leisure riders. Red marked are the intermediate routes and the black marked routes are a sporting challenge.
The bike & mountain bike map can be purchased for €8.90 from the Tannheimer Tal tourism association.
Always follow the color....
The right mix matters - this also applies to the mountain bike offering in the Tyrolean Tannheimer Tal. Whoever pedals here has the choice between 15 routes and more than 300 mountain bike kilometers for every skill and fitness level. All routes are combinable and clearly signposted.
Blue route - easy
Mountain bike beginners or confident road riders as well as e-bikers follow the blue signs in the Tannheimer Tal. The consistently easy paths have only minimal gradients and are therefore ideally suited for family outings in the saddle, where monotony is certainly not an issue: For example, the Kneipprundweg offers a refreshing descent depending on mood. After all, the almost six kilometers and 198 meters of elevation are easier to pedal with well-circulated legs.
Red route - intermediate
Those who see red in the Tannheimer Tal can look forward to intermediate and scenic mountain bike routes that require sporting cycling skills and particularly cautious riding behavior. A scenic tour tip: On the approximately 11-kilometer long "Haldenrunde," bikers cover almost 500 meters of altitude and, upon reaching the Berghotel Zugspitzblick at the top, are rewarded with a wide view of the Tannheimer Tal and the mountains Rote Flüh and Gimpel, the landmarks of the Tyrolean high valley. On a clear day, the view even reaches Germany's highest mountain.
Black route - difficult
In total 3 routes are classified as difficult - not least because of their length - and demand endurance and mountain bike experience. Like the route to the Raaz Alpe, where riders can expect 47 kilometers and 1,512 meters of elevation. The diversity of the Tyrolean high valley is shown on the "valley circuit": over 67 kilometers and 1,280 meters of elevation, the route offers the whole range of mountain biking. By the way, bikers can join or leave the "Tour de Tannheimer Tal" at any point.
--> Tip: The Tannheimer Tal is the starting point for the Bike-Trail-Tirol, the longest continuous circuit with 1,000 kilometers for mountain bikers in the Alpine region.Directions:
The route starts at the Krinnenalpe lift parking lot in Nesselwängle heading west to the Schmittenbichl and slightly ascending to the Polster curve. Continue along the forest road to the base station of the Almbodenlift. Here the path splits to the left, to the "Krinnenalpe" or to the Meranersteig (see page 10).
For the Almtour keep right and follow the wonderful panorama trail to the "Nesselwängler Edenalpe" and straight on to the destination of this route, the "Gräner Ödenalpe"
at 1726 m. Return the same way back to Nesselwängle.
Tip:
The lift company Nesselwängle transports mountain bikes (observe lift operation!)
Safety guidelines:It should be noted that mountain biking can involve an increased risk of accidents and injuries. Despite careful tour planning, a basic risk always remains. Preparation through endurance training, appropriate technical training and education as well as personal caution reduce the accident risk and hazards. But please never forget that the weather in the mountains can change very quickly. Stay on the marked paths
Ride on the "safe side" in the Tannheimer Tal
In Austria, mountain biking is generally prohibited by law on all forest and hiking trails, except explicitly designated mountain bike routes. The entrances to forest roads are sometimes marked with traffic ban signs and additional information such as "cycling prohibited." Hiking trails do not show these prohibition signs, but cycling on these paths is still forbidden.
Equipment:
Personal equipment must be safe and functional and correspond to the respective technical standard. Every mountain biker is recommended to inform themselves about the planned routes in specialist literature or locally.
Complete mountain bike equipment is strongly recommended even for experienced riders!
