Culture & art in the Tannheimer Tal

Tradition meets creativity

The Tannheimer Tal inspires with its living customs, regional crafts and cultural treasures. Local history museums, churches, chapels and traditional festivals tell the story of the region, while arts and crafts and music bring the valley to life.

Here, the past meets the present - a cultural experience in the heart of the Tyrolean mountains.

The Löffler bell in St Nicholas' Church, the second largest village church in Tyrol, is a special sight. The three-tonne bell with a diameter of 1.61 metres was cast in 1561 by Gregor Löffler and his sons.

To this day, it is rung as a weather bell when storms threaten - an old custom that is supposed to chase away the clouds.

Tannheimer Tal music bands and alphorn players

Here, tradition is not just a year-round attraction for guests, but is also part of everyday life. The Tannheimer Tal surprises with numerous old customs that have retained their character over the centuries and today tell a lot about life in the mountains. Did you know that each of the 6 communities in the Tannheimer Tal has its own music band and a total of around 200 musicians are active?
