Description:
The tour has three different starting points: Jungholz, Oberjoch and Bad Hindelang and crosses the border between Tyrol and Bavaria four times.
For demanding bikers, there are 15 bike trails with a total of 150 kilometers, which have been approved and uniformly signposted by the state of Tyrol. In addition,
the Tannheimer Tal is the starting point for the newly designed "Bike Trail Tirol" route. The large circular tour with over 800 kilometers and the many connecting stages with a further 500 kilometers
are designed so that bikers can put together their own personal route.
Cycle paths away from the roads
You can get to know the surrounding area on the "Tannheimer Tal cycle path", which passes the most beautiful corners of the Tyrolean high valley over 40 kilometers. The cycle paths are away from the main road and are uniformly signposted. Via Schattwald in the direction of Rehbach, you come to Ober- and Unterjoch in the Allgäu - stop for a moment at the "Floschen" moor pond. Or cycle on through Tannheim and Grän along the new lakeside promenade at Haldensee to Nesselwängle. You are sure to enjoy a detour to the Vilsalpsee nature reserve.
The Tannheimer Tal Cycling & Mountain Bike Map
A total of 15 tours are color-coded and numbered on the Tannheimer Tal Cycling & Mountain Bike Map. The route descriptions, altitude profiles, length and difficulty levels of each tour can be found on the back. All tours can be combined with each other and are clearly signposted. MTB tours in neighboring regions are also listed. The routes marked in blue are for connoisseurs. The medium-difficulty tours are signposted in red and the black signposting is a sporting challenge.
The cycle & mountain bike map can be purchased for € 8.90 from the Tannheimer Tal tourist office.
Always follow the color....
The right mix makes the difference - this also applies to the mountain bike offer in the Tyrolean Tannheimer Tal. If you get on your bike here, you can choose between 15 tours and more than 300 mountain bike kilometers for every ability and fitness level. All routes can be combined with each other and are clearly signposted.
Blue route - easy
Mountain bike beginners or confident bike tourers as well as e-bikers follow the blue signposting in the Tannheimer Tal. The trails, which are easy to ride on throughout, have only minimal gradients and are therefore ideal for family excursions in the saddle, where there is certainly no monotony: the Kneipp circular trail, for example, offers a refreshing descent depending on your mood. After all, the almost six kilometers and 198 meters in altitude are all the easier to cycle with well-blooded legs.
Red route - moderately difficult
Those who see red in the Tannheimer Tal are in for a treat. There are moderately difficult and scenic mountain bike trails that require sporty cycling skills and particularly defensive riding behavior. Touring tip with great views: On the 11-kilometre "Haldenrunde", bikers cover almost 500 meters in altitude and are rewarded at the top at the Berghotel Zugspitzblick with a sweeping view of the Tannheimer Tal and the Rote Flüh and Gimpel mountains, the landmarks of the Tyrolean high valley. On a clear day, the view even extends as far as Germany's highest mountain.
Black route - difficult
A total of 3 tours are classified as difficult - not least due to their length - and require fitness and mountain bike experience. Like the route to the Raaz Alpe, where 47 kilometers and 1,512 vertical meters await mountain bikers. The diversity of the Tyrolean high valley can be seen on the "Valley Tour": over 67 kilometers and 1,280 vertical meters, the route offers the whole range of mountain biking. By the way, bikers can join or leave the "Tour de Tannheimer Tal" at any point.
---> Tip: The Tannheimer Tal is the starting point for the Bike-Trail-Tirol, the longest continuous circuit for mountain bikers in the Alps at 1,000 kilometers.Directions:
Starting from the lift parking lot in Jungholz, the tour begins with a short and crisp ascent towards the district of Langenschwand. Once you have passed this, it is not long before you reach a steep descent that leads into the wild Vils valley. We follow the Vils upstream. The valley soon opens up and the Alpe Kälberhof invites you to take a break. The route continues - mostly uphill - via Schattwald to Oberjoch. There you have the option of a rapid descent over the Jochpass to Bad Hindelang or a more leisurely descent over the Obere and Untere Schwandalpe, where the Wertach river has its source, to Unterjoch and finally uphill to the starting point in Jungholz.Tip:
Beautiful, but somewhat challenging tour. Many opportunities for a rest or a stop with good viewpoints.
It should be noted that there is an increased risk of accidents and injuries in mountain biking. Despite careful tour planning, there is always a basic risk. Tour preparation through endurance sports, appropriate technical training and further training as well as personal prudence reduce the risk of accidents and risks. However, please never forget that the weather in the mountains can change very quickly.
Stay on the marked trails.
Ride on the "safe side" in the Tannheimer Valley
In Austria, mountain biking is generally prohibited by law on all forest and hiking trails, with the exception of mountain bike trails that have been expressly approved for this purpose. The entrances to forest roads are sometimes marked with no-cycling signs and additional information such as "No cycling". Hiking trails do not have these prohibition signs, but it is still forbidden to ride on them.Equipment:
Personal equipment must be safe and fit for purpose and meet the relevant technical standards. Every mountain biker is recommended to inform themselves about the planned tours in specialist literature or on site. Complete mountain bike equipment is strongly recommended even for experienced mountain bikers!Additional information:
