Tyrolean Trail Quality Seal
For two decades, the Tyrolean state government has been awarding the Trail Quality Seal to operators of trails under certain conditions.
The Tannheimer Tal is a "cross-country paradise." Not only does the ADAC Ski Guide 2008 list it among the top 10 ski areas in the Nordic/Cross-country category, but it has also received a special award from the state of Tyrol: the "Trail Quality Seal of the State of Tyrol." This is valid for three years, with criteria such as
number of trails, preparation, orientation, or marking regularly checked.
The Tannheimer Tal has optimal cross-country conditions with a 140-kilometer-long network of trails and a maximum altitude difference of 50 meters. The tracks are suitable for both classic style and skating and offer challenges for cross-country skiers of all skill levels.
We start below the Lourdes Grotto and follow the trail westward. After a fast descent, we reach the meadows in front of Zöblen, which we cross. Along the Vils with a magnificent panoramic view of the Wannenjoch and the surrounding mountains, the trail leads to Unterjoch and back to Schattwald. The return to Tannheim follows the edge of the forest along the Vils. After a short climb and a relaxing descent, we are back at the starting point.
Safety guidelines:Observe the FIS rules of conduct for cross-country skiers!
A secure handling of the sports equipment even in poor snow conditions and good fitness are basic prerequisites for cross-country skiing.
Choosing the right speed – adjusted to your skiing ability and fatigue level – greatly reduces the risk of accidents and injuries.
Stay on the route: All tours described here lead on groomed trails. So do not deviate from the route.
The trail map of the Tannheimer Valley eases your tour planning, shows distances, and helps estimating the running time.Equipment:
Modern and well-maintained equipment (skis, bindings, boots, poles, and clothing) not only provides a considerable level of safety but also makes cross-country skiing much easier. Sunscreen (high protection factor and possibly sunglasses) and enough fluids should not be forgotten.
