The Unterjoch-Schattwald sled dog race is one of the most important international events in sled dog sport. It takes place on the trail between Bad Hindelang-Unterjoch and Schattwald in Austria and is often held as a World Cup race. The competition was last held in January 2025. The lengths of the trails vary between 6 and 18 kilometers and present even experienced mushers with major challenges due to their technical demands. The race is organized by the BWSC and attracts several hundred participants every year. Due to the demanding route with spectacular descents, it is considered one of the most difficult races on the scene.

Description:
The date for 2026 has been set for January 31 and February 1, with February 7 and 8 planned as alternative dates. The route runs from Unterjoch via Oberjoch to Schattwald in Austria and then back again. Depending on the class, distances of between 6 and 18 kilometers are covered. The race is considered to be particularly challenging, as fast descents and tight bends demand a high level of driving skill. More than 100 mushers with over 500 dogs from all over Europe are expected to take part. The event is organized by the Baden-Württembergische Schlittenhundesport-Club e.V. The course is easily accessible for spectators, especially in the downhill areas. Tickets are available directly on site and cost around 6 euros for adults, children are admitted free of charge.
