Four paws, two boards - one team

World Sled Dog Championships 2027
 in the Tannheimer Tal

From January 22 to 24, 2027, the region around Unterjoch, Oberjoch and Schattwald will become a gathering place for the world's top sled dog racing teams. More than 200 mushers and over 1,000 sled dogs from 34 nations are expected to compete in the World Sleddog Association (WSA) World Championships in sprint and middle-distance events.

The cross-border racecourse connects Bavaria and Tyrol, running from Unterjoch via Oberjoch to Schattwald and back again. Depending on the race class, the teams will cover distances ranging from six to 18 kilometers. Speed, endurance and, above all, the close bond and teamwork between mushers and their dogs make the races a special winter experience.

A winter experience for the whole family: Spectators can get up close to the international teams, watch them at the start and along the course, and enjoy the unique atmosphere of the World Championships. With more than 1,000 sled dogs from 34 nations coming together, the event promises to be an extraordinary spectacle. The start, finish, paddock and festival tent are located in Unterjoch, with additional spectator areas in Schattwald.

The region has a long tradition of sled dog racing, with national and international competitions taking place here for around 25 years. The 2027 World Championships promise another highlight against the stunning wintry mountain scenery of the Allgäu and the Tannheimer Valley.
