The via ferrata to the Lachenspitze (2,123 m) in the Tannheimer Valley is a varied, mostly exposed route rated C/D in difficulty. It runs along the southeast flank and offers fantastic views down into the turquoise-blue Lachesee. The route is well-secured and exposed—perfect for sure-footed, non-vertigo-prone climbers seeking an alpine adventure.

The via ferrata is well signposted and also very well secured. It takes about 2 hours to climb the via ferrata. The via ferrata has no emergency exit and has some exposed passages. The difficulty level is C with a few D passages or level 3 (of 6). The descent is via the marked normal route back to the Landsberger Hütte. There you can also rent some via ferrata sets.

Directions:Start of the Hike
The starting point is Lake Vilsalpsee or the Neunerköpfle valley station in Tannheim. From there, the route leads via the Landsberger Hut (1,805 m) in about 2.5–3 hours of climbing to the trailhead at Lake Lachesee. The trail is marked and leads through beautiful alpine pastures into high-alpine terrain.
Descent
From the summit, you can either take the standard route (marked trail, with sections up to Grade I) back toward Lake Lachesee and the Landsberger Hut, or continue as a loop hike over the neighboring peaks (e.g., Rote Spitze or Steinkarspitze). From the hut, head back down into the valley to the starting point. Total descent time: approx. 3–3.5 hours.

Mountain sports generally involve an increased risk of accidents and injuries. Even with careful planning, a residual risk remains. Proper preparation through endurance training, technical practice, continuing education, and prudent behavior can reduce the risk of accidents. Weather conditions in the mountains can change very quickly and should always be taken into account. It is recommended that you stay on the marked hiking trails.
Equipment:Personal mountaineering equipment must be safe, in good working order, and comply with the relevant technical standards. All hikers are advised to consult specialized alpine literature or seek information on-site about their planned routes.
A complete via ferrata kit (via ferrata set, harness, and helmet) is strongly recommended, even for experienced hikers!

Landsberger Hütte
On the A7 highway, take the "Oy-Mittelberg" exit onto the B310 toward Wertach and then to Oberjoch. From there, follow the signs for "Tannheimer Tal" on the B199 to the Tannheim exit. Continue to Lake Vilsalpsee and the Landsberger Hütte (on foot).
From the Tyrolean side, drive via Reutte onto the B198 toward Lechtal until you reach Weißenbach, then over the Gaicht Pass along the B199 to the Tannheim exit. Continue toward Vilsalpsee; at the gravel pit, turn left toward Gappfenfeldalpe and continue on to the Landsberger Hütte (on foot).
Public Transit
Take the train to Sonthofen, Pfronten/Ried, or Reutte, then continue by bus to Tannheim.
Parking
In Tannheim, near the mountain railways. (Access to the lake is closed between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.).
