Even a king has dreams. Ludwig's dream was a fairytale castle like Neuschwanstein Castle.

Description:
On this tour, you’ll find out for yourself whether his dream came true. That’s why you’ll start from beautiful Tannheim and head first toward Pfronten, the town just outside of which stands Falkenstein Castle, which King Ludwig commissioned at the end of the 19th century. A scenic, steep road leads up to the ruins on the Falkenstein, where Germany’s highest castle complex awaits you at an elevation of 1,268 meters. Take a good look around so you can check later to see if Ludwig was able to fulfill his dream.

Continue down Burgstraße, and after a rapid descent, ride for a while along quiet, flat roads past the beautiful Weißensee toward Füssen. Here you’ll cross the Lech River, and soon you’ll be heading toward the inspiration for King Ludwig’s dream of a home of his own. We don’t mean to offend the monarch, but we fear that Neuschwanstein was a bit too grand after all. But judge for yourself. The king probably doesn’t care anyway—he passed away before even a single stone of his castle had been laid.
