Since the area around Lake Vilsalpsee—which has been designated a nature reserve for over 50 years and is also a Natura 2000 site—this hike offers a particularly charming experience.
The accessible trails and destinations we’ve selected invite families and people using mobility aids to explore: They are mostly paved or well-graveled and can generally be navigated easily with a stroller or wheelchair—though a helping hand may be helpful on a few sections.
Directions:From the inn at Vilsalpsee, follow the right shore of the lake to Vilsalpe—about a half-hour walk. From Vilsalpe, you can continue on to visit the waterfall at the end of the valley (Circular Trail No. 55)—about 1 hour. You can then walk back along the left side of the lake, thus circling Lake Vilsalpsee.
The road from Tannheim to Lake Vilsalpsee is closed to general traffic in both directions from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Round-trip travel is possible by bus (subject to a fee even with a guest card), the Tannheimer Alpenexpress (subject to a fee), or by horse-drawn carriage (by advance reservation only).
Tip:A highlight in every seasonSafety guidelines:
It is important to note that mountain sports can involve an increased risk of accidents and injuries. Even with careful trip planning, a basic level of risk always remains. Preparing for a trip through endurance training, appropriate technical training and continuing education, as well as personal caution, reduces the risk of accidents and other hazards. However, please never forget that the weather in the mountains can change very quickly. Stay on the marked hiking trails.Equipment:
Modern, well-maintained gear (shoes, hiking poles, and clothing) not only provides a significant level of safety but also makes hiking much easier. Don't forget sunscreen (with a high SPF) and sunglasses, if needed, as well as plenty of fluids.Additional information:
Didn't pack anything to eat? No problem—there are plenty of cozy places to stop for a bite to eat at Vilsalpsee, too.
