A relaxing walk to Vilsalpsee in the middle of the nature reserve often works wonders and allows visitors to forget the stresses of everyday life very quickly. The route to Vilsalpsee is easy enough for inexperienced hikers, as well as families with children and pushchairs.
Â
Vilsalpsee is in a nature reserve, so you can't drive there. From 8:00 to 17:00, no cars can go on the road in either direction.
You must pay a €5 user fee between 5:00 pm. and 8:00 am. The authorities have ordered changes to make traffic calmer all year round to help people get to the Vilsalpsee nature reserve.
There is a driving ban in place for motor vehicles in both directions between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.
Bus 121 goes to the nature reserve during the summer, and it runs regularly.

By foot/by bike:
A beautiful foot and cycle path from the centre of Tannheim in a southerly direction. The route is approx. 4 km and it takes approx. 1 hour to walk to the lake.
Parking fees at Vilsalpsee:
Due to a previous rockfall in 2012, a section on the eastern shore of the lake had to be closed. There is still a considerable risk of rockfall there, which is why it is not possible to walk around the lake. The eastern shore leads to the waterfall, which is a worthwhile excursion destination in summer.
The flat hiking trail along the lake to the Vilsalpe itself takes around 30 minutes and leads past green meadows and steep mountains. The impressive 400 metre high Berggaicht waterfall awaits at the end. On the way back, walkers can fortify themselves with a snack at the Vilsalpe or stop off at one of the other inns.
In winter, the winter hiking trail ends on the front shore of the lake at the two restaurants!
In the water:
Swimming: PERMITTED - Swimming area: North-east shore directly adjacent to Gasthof Vilsalpsee
On the water:
Stand up paddling: PROHIBITED
Canoeing: PROHIBITED
