Tyrolean Trail Quality Seal
For two decades, the Tyrolean state government has been awarding the Tyrolean Trail Quality Seal to trail operators who meet certain criteria.
The Tannheimer Tal is a "cross-country paradise." This is not only the opinion of the ADAC Ski Guide 2008, which nominated the region as one of the top 10 ski areas in the Nordic/cross-country category, but also the Tyrol state government, which awarded a special distinction: the "Trail Quality Seal of the State of Tyrol." This is valid for three years and criteria such as the number of trails, grooming, orientation, or marking are regularly checked.
With a 140-kilometer-long trail network and a maximum elevation difference of 50 meters, the Tannheimer Tal offers optimal conditions for cross-country skiing. The trails are suitable for both classical style and skating and offer suitable challenges for cross-country skiers of all skill levels.
We start at the building of the Tannheim Tourist Office and follow the eastward-running trail over the flat meadows with a magnificent view of the Rote Flüh
and the Gimpel. On the south shore of Lake Halden, we follow the trail along the forest edge to Nesselwängle. Below the Tannheimer Group and the Krinnenspitze, a wide loop is run over the outermost meadows of the valley.
The return to Tannheim takes place over the flat meadows of Nesselwängle and after a gentle descent we reach the east shore of Lake Halden. The highlight of this circular trail is the crossing of the frozen Lake Halden. The trail then passes Grän, which lies on the sunny side of the valley, and leads back to Tannheim over beautiful broad meadows with a magnificent view of the expanse of the "probably most beautiful high valley in Europe".
