Colourful cattle drives in the Tannheimer Tal
Customs and history can be found everywhere in the Tannheimer Tal: one tradition that is known far beyond the borders of the valley and takes place every autumn is the cattle drive. At the end of the summer, the cows return from the mountain pastures down to the valley. The cattle drives are all impressive spectacles that attract many visitors to the ‘most beautiful high valley in Europe’.
An Overview of all 2026 cattle drives
Cattle drive Grän-Haldensee
Starting at 11:00 a.m., morning drinks in the festival tent above the Burgschenke restaurant. Starting at 1:00 p.m., the cattle from the Edenbachalm, Strindenalm, and Gräner Ödenalpe are expected to arrive. At 6:30 p.m.: Awards ceremony and bell presentation, followed by a cowbell auction. Food, drinks, and great entertainment by the “Alpenstreuner” and the “SBS Quintett” are guaranteed. The Grän Rural Youth Association looks forward to your visit.

Cattle drive & small Jungholzer market
Starting at 9:00 a.m., white sausage breakfast in the festival tent; 9:30 a.m., welcome by the marching band at Kirchplatz. Around 10:00 a.m. Arrival of the Alpen Älpele & Stubental. Starting at 11:00 a.m., the Jungholz brass band; at 2:00 p.m., “Kanapee Musik.” Food and drinks will be provided—the Jungholz Volunteer Fire Department looks forward to your visit!
Cattle drive Nesselwängle at the fire station
Starting at 11:00 a.m., morning drinks with “Mario K. im Duo.” Starting around 2:00 p.m., the decorated cows from the Schneetalalm, Krinnenalpe, and Nesselwängler Edenalpe will arrive. Afterward, the “Lumpen Mander” will get the party started. Around 6:30 p.m., there will be a cowbell auction. The tent is heated and features a bounce house and food and drink stands—refreshments will be provided. The Nesselwängle Rural Youth Association looks forward to seeing you there!
Cattle drive Schattwald below the community center
Starting at 11:00 a.m., there will be a morning get-together with the Schattwald Brass Band. At around 1:30 p.m., the decorated cows—followed by the young cattle—are expected to arrive from the Stuibenalpe. Food and drinks will be provided—the Schattwald Volunteer Fire Department looks forward to your visit.

Cattle drive Tannheim
Starting at 11:00 a.m., entertainment by “Grenzwertig Böhmisch” in the festival tent at the lift parking lot. Starting at 1:00 p.m., the cattle are expected to arrive from the Usseralpe, the Älpele, the Obere Rossalpe, the Vilsalpe, the Obere Traualpe, the Gappenfeldalm, and the Heimweide Unterhöfen. Starting at 6:00 p.m., “Die Chefs” will get the party started. At 8:00 p.m., the alpine herders will be honored with the presentation of cowbells. Food and drinks will be provided—the Tannheim Rural Youth Association looks forward to welcoming many visitors!

Starting at 11:00 a.m., a mountain Mass with Father Boguslav Duda, accompanied by about 50 alphorn players. Starting at 1:00 p.m., Sisi & Friends and the alphorn players will provide entertainment. At 3:00 p.m., a grand bell raffle with musical accompaniment.
